A cult leader who claims to be the reincarnation of God has been arrested in a morning raid of a remote Russian compound known as the ‘Sun City’.

Sergei Torop, aka Vissarion, is a 59-year-old ex-soldier who claims to have been reborn as Jesus Christ back in 1990.

Following his religious rebirth, Torop has racked up what he believes to be some 5,000 followers of which some live with him at a remote compound in Siberia.

During a Tuesday raid of the compound, the Russian National Guard, along with other security forces, arrested Torop and his wingman, former rock musician Vadim Redkin, and took the pair away in a helicopter.

According to the reports, the large military-style operation included the use of four helicopters, dozens of vehicles, and a small army of heavily-armed soldiers and plain-clothed police officers.

As one estimate suggested, some 90 families were present at the Sun City when the authorities moved in. Meanwhile, however, Torop claims that he has a total of over 5,000 followers of which some several hundred live with him at the compound.

While it is unclear why the authorities chose to act now, the Russian Investigative Committee confirmed that the group and its leaders are being investigated for the alleged use of “psychological violence” that reportedly resulted in a “serious harm” of some of the followers.

According to the authorities, the sect is also being probed for “causing grievous bodily harm to two or more persons.”

Previously, Torop, who allegedly wrote a “sequel to the Bible,” opened up about his teachings and revealed they “have a school of noble maidens” in the Sun City.

“She has to understand not to rise above the man, not to be proud of her independence but to be shy, inconspicuous and weak,” Torop told BBC as he spoke about the ‘training’ girls at the compound have to undergo before they can become wives.

As Torop at one point insisted, he was sent to Earth by God in order to educate the people about the ills of war and the destruction of the environment.

Believing that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, the cult leader has ditched the celebration of Christmas and imposed the worshipping of the anniversary of his first sermon.

While official birth records show otherwise, Torop insists that his mother is Mary, the mother of Jesus.
