A 31-year-old man from Sydney was arrested in May last year for committing serious instances of bestiality and child sexual abuse.
He was initially charged with 44 offenses but after checking evidence seized during the first arrest, the Australian Federal Police charged him with an additional 152 offenses.
The St. Clair man was arrested as part of the AFP’s Operation Arkstone, which is a large-scale investigation into a global online network of child sex offenders.
The 31-year-old allegedly filmed himself abusing young children and posted the videos online. He was arrested at his home in Willoughby in connection with the child sex ring, including one count of possessing or controlling child abuse material accessed or obtained using a carriage service.
According to reports, the ring was discovered when AFP investigators examined the phone of a man from Wyong.
“We need to remove these children from harm and importantly, with law enforcement in Australia and across the globe, we must arrest those who carry out these heinous crimes,” said AFP Commander Hilda Sirec.
“As a society we still find it too confrontational to talk about child sexual abuse and exploitation. So we must have more conversations with the community and inform them that this crime is more pervasive and wide-spread than realized,” Commander Sirec continued.
She also said that Australia needs to combat the exploitation of children with the same urgency as the nation fought the coronavirus pandemic.
“No one nation is immune to the threat of child sexual abuse and no one nation can tackle it alone,” Sirec said. “Sadly, there are victims and child sex offenders throughout the world.”
