A man from Pennsylvania has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after he put fishing hooks into stray cats’ food.
27-year-old Kenny Rowles from Plymouth is now facing animal cruelty charges after a stray cat was found with a fishhook in its mouth in Plymouth.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the cat survived but has scarring around its mouth.
Two other cats were also spotted with fishing hooks in their mouth.
Rowles admitted that he put meat on fishing line and dangled it from his back porch for cats.
Happy Hearts and Tails Safe Haven Animal Rescue found the cat named Tollie with a fishhook in its mouth.
The cat had to undergo surgery at Wilkes-Barre Animal Hospital.
Luzerne County Humane Officer Lisa Devlin told Times Leader: “The charges are very serious, it was very harmful to the cat. I’m thankful that the justice system will step in now and get justice for Tollie.”
“The intent was a little bit concerning. Neglect is one thing but the intent to intentionally harm and knowingly, just like the law says, it’s concerning.”
Rowles was arrested after he bragged about putting fishing hooks into the cats’ food to his neighbors.
Whiskers World Cat Rescue called police and Rowles was arrested. He has been taken to the Luzerne County Prison and is being held on $100,000 bail.
