A third installment in the Hocus Pocus franchise is in the works, Walt Disney confirmed.
The second Hocus Pocus movie saw the return of Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as the Sanderson Sisters nearly three decades after the release of the original film.
The movie has since broken a record on the Disney Plus streaming platform where it racked up an astounding 2.7 billion viewing minutes.
Just months after the second installment’s release in September, Disney officials confirmed that Hocus Pocus 3 is already in the works.
While it remains unclear if the third movie will see the return of the three witches and the original cast members, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production President Sean Bailey assured the fans that “Hocus Pocus 3 is happening.”
“Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening,” he told The New York Times.
The original Hocus Pocus movie was released in 1993 and became a classic Halloween movie after earning $45 million at the box office.
Since its release, the original cast often spoke about the potential return of the Sanderson sisters but it wasn’t until 2019 that the sequel finally received the green light.
“I don’t think any of us who were making it at the time thought Hocus Pocus would have such a long life. People tell me all the time they grew up watching it, and that they still watch it. I think it’s wonderful,” Jessica Parker said of the movie’s success on its 25th anniversary.
Parker later also confirmed that Midler, Najimy, and her all agreed to return for the second movie and reprise the notorious Sanderson sisters after Disney+ announced the happy news.
“We have all said yes. Now we wait. X,” she said at the time.
Now, fans of the franchise are once again keeping their fingers crossed in hopes the cast will be reunited for another sequel.
