Emily Ratajkowski has revealed that she bought her one-year-old son a doll and tea set to ‘balance’ out his toy collection.
In her latest episode of High Low podcast, the supermodel told her guest, Julia Fox, that her truck-obsessed toddler gets very excited by cars and trucks.
She then wondered if that’s what her son naturally likes before adding that it makes her ‘so sad’ to think that her baby would be pressured to ‘toughen up.’
“I’m like, are those the little ways you can start making sure the conditioning doesn’t happen? And spending a lot of time around women?” she continued.
Fox, who has a one-year-old son, also shared that her tot ‘loves trucks’ and ‘freaks out’ when seeing them.
The Uncut Gems star said: “It’s hard as a single mom, raising a son, you just don’t want them to end up like every single guy you’ve ever met, you know? How do I stop this conditioning from occurring?”
Ratajkowski previously shared her difficult experiences raising a child and why she does not try to gender him.
Speaking with Interview Magazine, she said earlier this year: “Babies have this genderless quality to them, and so I love affording that to him right now.
“I’ve just been treating him as this wonderful little human who’s being introduced to the world.”
She also revealed that she ‘noticed that as soon as people know that’ her child is a ‘boy,’ people ‘interact with him’ in a different manner than when they talk to a baby girl.
“Sometimes I feel frustrated by that because I think there’s even a tendency to throw a little boy in the air, be a little bit rougher with them than you would a little girl,” she expressed.
“That stuff already bothers me because I can see where it’s leading.”
Internet users were quick to share their thoughts, with one person commenting: “But if he is showing signs of a single gender why can’t you allow him too.”
Another said: “How sad. Let the kid play with whatever he wants (as long as it’s safe and age appropriate). My daughter plays with my son’s trucks and he also plays with her kitchen. They don’t look at gender when they’re playing, just what helps them have fun.”
