January 6, 2021, will now be known as the day rioters stormed the US Capitol and the day that got former president Donald Trump impeached for the second time.
QAnon Shaman, who was one of the visible faces of the violent mob on Capitol Hill, has been detained after Arizona prosecutors said that his actions and words showed that the intent of the protesters was to ‘capture and assassinate’ lawmakers.
33-year-old Jacob Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli, was indicted on two felony charges of obstructing a Congressional proceeding and interfering with law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and threatening Congressional officials.
But his lawyer claims that his health is deteriorating in prison as he refuses to eat non-organic food.
“The Defendant has not been able to consume any food since the commencement of his stay in Washington, DC, being a period in excess of one week,” his attorney, Albert Watkins, wrote.
“It is understood the Defendant has lost weight in excess of twenty pounds during the last week.”
Chansley has previously raised his complaint while in detention in Arizona. He has once again gone on a hunger strike as he refused to eat non-organic meals in jail.
A new court filing claims that Chansley is a real shaman, and as part of his religious beliefs, he won’t eat any non-organic food.
The court has been asked to order the prison to give him “life-sustaining sustenance for ingestion” or grant him release from prison until his trial.
“Based on Mr. Jacob Chansley’s shamanic belief system and way of life, non-organic food, which contains unnatural chemicals, would act as an ‘object intrusion’ onto his body and cause serious illness if he were to eat it,” Watkins wrote.
“An ‘object intrusion,’ is the belief that disease originates outside the body from unhealthy objects coming into the body.
“In shamanic traditions, the body, mind, and soul are interconnected, and the well-being of all three are necessary for my client to be able to practice his faith.”
Chansley previously told the BBC that he was confident he would be released without charge as he had “truth and God on his side.”
He also said that the protest was only “patriots doing what our founding fathers would have done.”
