A transgender father and his partner have been slammed on social media after revealing that their 5-year-old son was born a male but now identifies as a female.
According to the transgender father, Greg Rogers, he, his partner Jody, and their friends and school staff all accept their 5-year-old Jayden as a girl despite the fact that the child was born a male.
Despite a lot of support that their fashion-loving 5-year-old receives, however, the parents revealed that people often blame them for Jayden’s decisions.
“We’ve had people saying we’re using Jayden for attention and that she just wants to be a girl because I changed sex. It’s ridiculous. Jayden knows nothing about my past. She just knows me as dad,” Greg said.
“They say it’s cruel we let her wear a dress but is it not more cruel to do nothing when you’ve got a kid who’s so adamant she’s a girl she’s ripping her hair off and banging her head off the walls?”
Greg’s partner, 21-year-old Jody, added: “Social workers can also see Jayden is well looked after and have no concerns. All we want is Jayden to be happy and proud of who she is, whatever that might be.”
Speaking to Daily Mail, Greg admitted that he and Jody often feel hurt by other people’s insensitive comments.
“We haven’t encouraged Jayden to do this, despite what people think, and we are hurt at the suggestion,” he said.
Jayden began wearing dresses and letting his hair grow long when he was 4 years old. He also insisted on having his nails painted and eventually revealed that he wanted to be a girl.
“I hate wearing boys’ clothes and everything about being a boy,” the 5-year-old allegedly told his father.
“At first, we thought it was probably just a phase but it’s been consistent ever since. She is adamant she’s a girl,” Greg said.
Despite the entire family is happy as they are, the parents were forced to protect their 5-year-old from social media users who swarmed the family with vile comments.
“Having been through this myself, I have conflicting emotions about her deciding she doesn’t want to be a boy anymore,” Greg said, recalling the abuse that the was put through when he decided to become a man.
“It’s not an easy life. People will always judge you and I don’t think there is a single transgender person on the planet who would push that on a child.”
Speaking of Jayden’s decision, Jody added: “I was naive. I didn’t think a child could be transgender and it isn’t until now, after speaking to other parents in our situation, that we realize it is more common than everyone thinks.”
