During Walmart’s annual shareholders meeting the company announced changes and its employees were so delighted to see their new uniform makeover.
The company planned to replace its signature blue vests with a more modern steel grey version.
“Our new vests have a modernized style that takes advantage of trim detail and screen printing to introduce color in an eye-catching way,” a representative for the superstore said in a release.
Walmart said in its blog post: “Uniforms are important, but looking exactly like everyone else isn’t it,
“We all want to be able to express who we are, and the new Walmart vest will allow associates to do just that.”
To identify different employee’s position throughout the store different color trim will be used. This is the first time since 2014 that Walmart has redesigned the staff uniform.
Most associates will have blue trim, but the employees of small brand Neighborhood market stores will have a green trim on their vests. Spotting a self-checkout attendant in super-centers will be very easy because they wear bright yellow with grey trim.
Each vest has a text on the front right chest on the uniform which reads, “proud Walmart associate.”
Repreve fabric which is made from recycled bottles is used to make vests.
However, the new vests are not the only recent changes in employee’s daily dress.
Like last year, Walmart’s workers can now wear any solid color shirt, and blue jeans are considered suitable pants. The company says that their staff’s response to the dress code more comfortable is “amazing.”
Later this year, Walmart is planning to announce other ways for employees to customize their vests and they are working to create a uniform where each person can bring their own style while still representing the brand well.
