A 20-year-old woman, from Sacramento, California, has alopecia totalis – an autoimmune disorder that affects the hair follicles causing baldness.
Cayla Harder discovered she has alopecia totalis when a hairdresser spotted small patches of hair loss on Cayla’s head when she was in middle school.
The twenty-year-old has now accepted her imperfections as she says she is bald and sexy.
Cayla told Barcroft TV: “Any teenage girl has confidence issues in high school, but to have hair loss problems on top of that is unbearable.”
Cayla started wearing wigs after being diagnosed with alopecia.
She was unable to hide her bald spots so she wore wigs in her junior year.
She had 15 wigs and now has owns four wigs of different colors and lengths.
The twenty-year-old said the wigs were more a way of showing off her personality.
Cayla was supported by her family and friends and then, she met her boyfriend Joel Perez.
Cayla was hiding her condition from outsiders but then she decided to open up about her condition.
She shaved all her hair and posted a picture of herself on Instagram.
She said she felt like she was free and a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
She said: “It was like freedom.
It was this weight that had been lifted off my shoulders and I could finally just go out and do whatever I wanted.”
Cayla is now a successful model and has appeared on television several times.
Cayla has become an inspiration to many after sharing her story.
She has taught everyone that nothing is impossible if you have a passion and dedication.
She has a huge fan following on social media and hopes that her story will inspire people who are afraid of their imperfections.
