A 34-year-old 15 stone woman, Redbridge, East London, was told she couldn’t get pregnant due to her weight as she would eat chicken kebabs and chips every day.
Zebe Voicu, a hairdresser who loved junk food, was unable to get pregnant with her husband Adi and was told to lose weight to get pregnant.
Within eight months, Zebe lost half of her body weight after she spent £6,500 to have her stomach surgically removed and then lost more than 7st.
However, she still couldn’t get pregnant and wished she was fat again as she preferred the way she looked before.
Zebe told FABULOUS: “I went from a size 20 down to size 4 and didn’t even recognize myself. I couldn’t connect who I saw in the mirror with who I was now.”
“I’d cry to my husband and say I wanted to get fat again because I preferred the way I looked before.”
She said she was bubbly and chatty before losing weight but after losing weight, she couldn’t connect with herself.
Zebe said she only agreed to lose weight in order to get pregnant but that didn’t happen.
Zebe was forced to see a counselor once-a-week for 18 months to accept the person she saw in the mirror after losing weight.
Only after a year-and-a-half of therapy, she started liking her transformation.
She says despite not getting pregnant, she feels much better after losing weight.
She said: “I can see the benefit of losing weight even if I haven’t managed to get pregnant.”
Zebe, who was a size 10 when she married at 21, turned to junk food to cope with the grief of not being a mother.
When she ballooned to 15st, she was told to lose weight in order to get pregnant. She managed to lose weight but still couldn’t get pregnant.
However, Zebe has now started liking her look and is living a healthy lifestyle.
She said: “It’s taken me a while to come to terms with my new body and not being a mother. I don’t know if it will ever happen but I’m finally happy in my own skin.”
Zebe, who would eat chicken kebab and chips, now eats two poached eggs with half a sausage or smoked salmon and two Ryvitas for breakfast.
For lunch, she takes salad with grilled chicken or fish, chicken noodle soup, meatball soup with carrot and potato, Greek salad without olive oil or olives.
For dinner, she takes stew made with dumplings, chicken, and vegetables.
