Workers cleaning the sewers were shocked to find a giant rat blocking the drainage system.

As it turns out, the monster was just a Halloween prop but its realistic structure scared off the cleanup crews, who later pulled out the vermin.

The ratzilla was pulled out from the sewage system in the Magdalena Contreras borough in Mexico in September 18.

The huge fake rat and other tons of trash caused a flood which drowned a 54-year-old woman trapped inside her home.

54-year-old Dona Mari drowned in her apartment after she got trapped inside her flooded home. The water caused furniture and appliances to block the door.

Her body was found by a neighbor who searched for her after realizing she was not with the group who had gathered outside of their homes because of the extreme flooding.

Workers cleaned the sewage system to reduce the flooding, and that’s when they discovered the cause of the flood.

Residents were shocked but marveled at the giant rat after it was pulled out. It is not clear where the fake rodent came from.

Mayor Patricia Ortiz Coutier said in a statement: “It has been five arduous days of teamwork to help the families that were affected.

“On the days spent cleaning the river and ravine we found tonnes of garbage, we cannot allow for this accumulation of waste which places many families at risk.”

The realistic prop was among the 22 tons of rubbish and debris pulled by workers from the sewers.
