Climate scientists have spoken out and warned that humanity has no more than 18 months to save planet Earth from potentially deadly consequences.
Following the heatwave that has swept over Europe in the recent weeks, scientists have taken the incident as an opportunity to once again warn about Earth’s ever-changing atmosphere and the consequences of global warming.
According to the new shocking claims, Earth will be left critically “wounded” if we, as the human race, don’t act within the following 18 months.
Speaking to BBC of the need to make radical decision to cut carbon emissions and counter the effects of global warming by the end of next year, Hans Joachim Schellnhuber of the Potsdam Climate Institute warned:
“The climate math is brutally clear: While the world can’t be healed within the next few years, it may be fatally wounded by negligence until 2020.”
Echoing the remarks at the Commonwealth foreign ministers reception, Prince Charles said:
“I am firmly of the view that the next 18 months will decide our ability to keep climate change to survivable levels and to restore nature to the equilibrium we need for our survival.”
The announcements follow a year after the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change expressed the need to cut carbon emissions by 45 percent by the year 2030 to keep the increase in worldwide temperatures below 1.5°C.
“This is concerning because we know there are so many more problems if we exceed 1.5°C global warming, including more heat waves and hot summers, greater sea level rise, and, for many parts of the world, worse droughts and rainfall extremes,” climate science academic Andrew King told CNN.
