It was a normal winter day for Shelby Lynn Henry Alexander; she was waiting at a stoplight when she noticed a man was sitting on the side of the road.
He was holding a sign on which it was written that ‘he needs a little help’.
Shelby, who usually gives food instead of money to people, gave him three bills and her real-estate business card, in case he ever needed her help.
She shared this incident on Facebook and wrote that she did not know his name but she remembered his face. She added that it was hard to forget the dingy clothes that he was wearing on a cold winter day, the way he had wrapped his blanket around his dog rather than around himself and the shamefulness that was in his eyes when she offered him the money.
She sent a prayer for him and then drove away.
A few months later, she received a call from a man who wanted to have a look at one of her company houses. When they met, she instantly recognized the man. It was the same man she had given three bills to, but this time he looked different. He was wearing a collared shirt, new jeans and was sporting a clean-shaven look.
He had tears in his eyes when he returned the money to her along with her business card. She was confused, so he explained that he is an engineer.
He said that his ex-wife had run off with another man and with her, she took everything he had. He just had a dog left with him, at that time when he asked for money, he just needed a little help and nothing else.
The man was an engineer and now has a new job, a happy dog, a new truck, and a happy new life.
He was looking for a house for his friend, and thus repaying the favor by extending her business, just as he promised.
Shelby learned a powerful lesson that day—never judge someone just by their experience, God knows what that person might be going through.
