It’s always exciting when your toddler finally learns to speak. At first, he or she will just stumble over a few sounds and all you’ll hear is gibberish. But eventually, the child gets the hang of it and actual words start to form. Hearing your child say “Daddy” or “Mommy” is one of the sweetest things and something you’d want to capture on video for posterity if you’re lucky enough.
Other words will quickly follow (and hopefully, not those swear words you sometimes thoughtlessly utter in frustration!). So for a three-year-old named Meera Singhal to be able to say “hello” is nothing remarkable. But the fact that she can say “hello” in 25 different languages is.
Meera has shown signs of being a prodigy early on especially with her near-photographic memory.
Geography is currently her area of expertise and her father, Gaurav, quickly discovered how exceptional his daughter’s intellectual abilities were when he gave her a book about the world’s flags and she processed and recalled them in a manner that was way above a typical toddler’s abilities.
Gaurav is in the video with his daughter when he presents Meera with the word “hello” written on a page. Without hesitation, Meera speaks the word and even names the language that it’s in.
Meera is not confined to normal languages, either. She has also mastered saying hello using difficult-to-learn languages that have unique alphabets such as Hebrew, Mandarin, and Arabic.
Gaurav said: “Meera has a near-photographic memory.
“We discovered this talent when she was two-years-old, so we got a book with flags of various countries just for fun.
“We noticed right away that she remembers patterns and difficult names after seeing/hearing them once or twice.”
Like any proud father, Gaurav wholeheartedly nurtures Meera’s enthusiasm and skills by spending 30 minutes every night for three to four times a week in order to teach Meera about new countries, flags, and other things about them.
Meera can even recognize world-famous landmarks just by looking at them. She also knows each US state, including the capital, and has memorized all 151 original Pokémons.
Gaurav continued: “Almost every day when I come back from work she asks me what we are learning today.
“She has an incredible interest in learning these things which makes teaching easier and more fun.”
This early on, it’s clear Meera has a bright future in the diplomatic service if she chooses to pursue that route when she grows up!
