Growing out any over-plucked eyebrows requires a lot of persistence and patience but it can be done. Just be aware that it’s not going to take a few days but rather a few weeks and months.

However, a few beauty experts share some tips on how to make eyebrow growing less difficult than it has to be.

1 – Know when you need to start growing out your eyebrows

Beauty expert Maribeth Madron suggests growing out your eyebrows if you’re spending an inordinate amount of time on brow makeup compared to the rest of your face. She says, “You know it’s time to grow out your brows when you’re going to see a pro more than once a month, or you no longer like the way you look without brow makeup.”

2 – Understand the growing out eyebrows takes time

“The growth cycle for brows is four months,” says Madron. “However, I’ve seen great progress with brow conditioner after eight weeks. I have also seen major brow revolutions take up to a year.”

RevitaBrow can also help because it has minimal side effects. “I’ve used it personally for over a decade and suggest it for my clients as well,” says Madron. “I also use Nutrafol supplements for healthy lashes and brows.” But make sure to consult a doctor before introducing any new supplements.

Trichologist Michelle Blaisure also cautions that if you’ve been plucking eyebrows for many years, then it’s possible not all of your eyebrows may grow back. “Overplucking can cause permanent damage to the follicle to the point where it can no longer grow new hair,” she says. “Serums may help, but for most people, they may want to look into microblading.”

New York City-based dermatologist Joshua Zeichner also says that overall both health is an important determinant of how well your eyebrows grow back. “To ensure optimal growth of eyebrow hair, make sure you have a well-balanced diet and consider a hair-growth vitamin,” says Zeichner.

3 – Be careful of the type of growth serum to use if you decide on one

There are countless products that supposedly promote the growth of eyebrows. It’s easy to get overwhelmed but in summary, look for one that has peptides in them.

Cosmetic chemist, Ginger King says that grow serums that have peptides “are the best choices for safety.” She adds, “There are many types of peptides which a consumer can generally recognize by the wording ‘peptide’ on the ingredient list.”

Zeichner explains that “peptides help stimulate the activity of the hair follicle to give greater length and thickness of eyebrow hairs.”

However, while eyebrow growth serums do work, they need to be applied constantly or you lose any gains. “Brow serums do work,” Robin Evans says. “However, the growth that they promote will fall out after discontinued use. Keep that in mind. It’s all about commitment.”

4 – Be smart about grooming your eyebrows during the grow-out phase

It’s normal for your eyebrows to look odd as they’re still growing out but it’s important to groom them properly.

“I brush my eyebrows daily using a little brow pencil to enhance the shape,” says Evans. “Every few days, I tweeze any little coarse hairs underneath the brow line to keep them looking nice and clean.”

Also, make sure to fill any gaps so you’re not tempted to tweeze any new growth. And to pull your focus away from the eyebrows, try donning a pretty necklace or putting on bright lip color.

5 – Know when it’s alright to DIY and when you should visit a salon

Madron explains, “DIY is a great option if you have naturally good brows for your face shape and feature size and only overdid it a few times. If you didn’t start with great brows, had a major hacking incident, or desire a radical change, consult the pros.”

Stevi Christine adds that the look you’re striving for and how fast your hair grows are also determining factors. She says, “For the lucky ones, brows grow back fast. But if you want to change your shape or grow fuller brows, it can take months for people to do it on their own. Even people like me — I haven’t tweezed my brows in years.”

To reiterate, you’re going to need a lot of patience for this. Just like Rome, eyebrows are not grown in a day. And like a recovering alcoholic, keep away from those tweezers.
