If you’ve done any sort of travel for more than one day then chances are, you’ve stayed in at least one hotel in the course of your trip.
Sure, it’s much cheaper (and more fun) if you could stay with a friend or relative who lives in the place you’re going to but if you travel all over the country or the world, this isn’t always an option.
Besides, that friend or relative may not even have the capacity to put you up for a night let alone a few days.

So suffice to say, traveling more often than not involves staying in some sort of hotel. Fortunately, nowadays most hotels are just a Google search away and there are some sites that can even compare various hotel rates so that you can get the best price for the amenities you’re looking for.
But aside from the usual tips about booking early so that you have better chances of securing a room and bargain-hunting online, there are still some additional tips that you can follow to make your hotel stay hassle-free.
1 – Clean that remote
It’s really tempting to just switch on the TV to catch your favorite show or update yourself on the news after a long trip but keep in mind that scores of other people have also touched that same remote in your hand. You would do well to give it a quick swipe (and wash your hands).
2 – Be careful of the drinking glasses
Like the remote, those drinking glasses have come in contact with lots of people and it’s a little more intimate because it touched their mouths. Since you’re not really sure about how meticulous the hotel’s staff is about cleaning these items, wash the glasses yourself before touching them to your own mouth.
3 – Don’t put your luggage on the bed
It’s not just because your luggage may have come in contact with a dirty surface and you don’t want those germs on the bed. Hotel beds may also contain bed bugs and they can easily make the jump from the bed to your luggage and you could end up carrying a very unwelcome keepsake from your travels.
4 – A travel power strip is a good idea
People are as tooled up as they’ve ever been with the number of devices that they carry in their person nowadays. It wouldn’t be surprising for someone to have a laptop, smartphone, and tablet with them. However, most hotels have a limited amount of outlets in the room so a travel power strip can help ensure that your devices can be charged at the same time.
5 – Consider booking at a hostel
The simple reason is that you could end up saving hundreds of dollars this way. Of course, it all depends on how much you’re willing to pay for privacy or the lack of it.
