A 23-year-old nursery teacher, Breda Black, found a 66-year-old telegram that was from her granddad to her grandmother.
The 90-year-old grandmother named Lily has now revealed the heartwarming story behind the 66-year-old love letter.
The letter was from Breda’s granddad James Morris Black, also known as Jim, asking Lily to meet him in Glasgow city centre back in 1954.
The 90-year-old grandma revealed she met a man ‘with two left feet’ at the Plaza ballroom in Glasgow while looking for ‘the best dancer’ in 1952.
It was the love at first sight and when Jim was on holiday to Dublin, he sent the telegram to Lily asking her to meet him in Glasgow city centre.
Soon, he proposed to Lily after coming back from the holiday and they got married in 1954.
The couple were happily married for 51 years and have four children, five grandkids, and five great-grandchildren.
Breda said: “My Gran met my Grandad in 1952 and they dated till 1954 when they got married.”
“The telegram was sent in 1954 before they got engaged when grandpa was on holiday in Dublin. He had wanted to meet her when he came, they got married later that year.”
Breda told her grandma would always look for the best dancer and when she met Jim, she instantly fell in love with him.
The couple went upstairs for a coffee and decided to meet again the next day.
They dated two years from 1952 to 1954 before getting married.
Breda said it was a beautiful trip down memory lane with her grandma Lily and she just wanted to show how dating used to be back then.
Jim and Lily lived happily together for 51 years in Carntyne, Glasgow before Jim passed away in 2005.
Lily said about her husband: “I might not have got a good dancer, but I got a great husband.”
