Kids can be really finicky when it comes to food which is why it can be a challenge to get them to eat right.

You can sternly tell them to eat and maybe they’ll throw a tantrum but not many would bother to leave a note, as this sassy girl did when she didn’t like what her dad made for her lunch meal:

Because it can be so difficult to feed kids with something they’ll actually finish, a lot of parents just opt for sweet-tasting food. Of course, the catch-22 with this type of solution is that, sure, you can get your kid to eat, but you also open them up to getting obesity, diabetes, and all that good stuff if they’re unable to control their intake.

That’s why some parents still choose to make healthy meals for their kids, as 37-year-old Pete Simson did for his daughter Pearl. What he didn’t bank on was the sassy seven-year-old’s disdain for his cooking and she even left a note in her lunchbox explaining exactly why she didn’t bother eating the meal he made for her.

Pete, from Bristol, said: “Well clearly, she wasn’t a fan of the sandwich I made her.

“I asked her if she liked her packed lunch and she told me there was a note in the lunchbox.

“I thought it might be a thank you or something but as soon as I saw the disheveled sarnie in there I knew something was amiss.

“The dark brown pencil it was written with should have been a clue, it was a foreboding color.”

The note read: “I not etting my sandwish because I hate hummas.”

Pete wasn’t sure how to react. He admitted he was amused that Pearl took the effort to write him the note but he was also horrified that she may have been left hungry during her day at school.

He said: “This is a very Pearl thing to do – she is what a casual observer might describe as ‘sassy’.

“To her mother, it’s the sign of a strong woman but to me, it’s plain insolence.

“I should add my own mother made the worst sandwiches on crumbly bread when I was a kid, but I made damn sure I ate them.

“I suppose it’s nice I’m following in a family tradition.

“Pearl also hates sourdough, with that and the hummus she’ll never be a middle-class icon.”
