79-year-old Philip Clements was left homeless after selling his house to purchase a Bucharest flat for his 25-year-old Romanian husband.
He also insisted that their three-year relationship is real and keeps getting stronger than ever.
Clements and Florin Marin tied the knot in April 2017 after meeting on Grindr, a dating app, in 2015. When the couple appeared on the Jeremy Kyle show, they said that their relationship is better than before.
In fact, Clements sold his £215,000 home in Kent so he could purchase a flat in Bucharest, Romania, where his husband was from. He even transferred the ownership into Marin’s name.
After a few months, they split up because of arguments about Marin’s nightlife. Clements had to return to Britain, and his supportive friends offered him a place to stay.
“When things were going well between us I assigned the flat to him legally in order to give him security when I die. I’m 79 and can’t go on forever and I wanted him to have that security. So he has the flat and there is no way I can get it back, even if I wanted it back,” Clements explained in an interview.
Like what many people say, love is sweeter the second time around, and the two are now back together as they visited the Jeremy Kyle show.
“I don’t have any money but our relationship is better than ever, though I’m not sure if Florin agrees,” Clements said. “We said this was our last chance to see if we could be together. We are not together permanently but when we broke up and we weren’t together I realized I missed him enormously.
“I tried to have a relationship with someone else but that didn’t work, he was the one I wanted. He was the one for me and I wanted to know if we could have another chance,” he continued.
Clements also said: “We wanted to show people that we are just normal people. I am not a dirty old man, I don’t like that expression, it’s horrible. I like having the opportunity for people to meet us as normal people who love each other.”
Then, Jeremy asked Marin about his real intentions and what he thought about the perception that he was only after Clements’ money.
“I love this nickname of gold-digger, people are so interested in me that’s why they have given me a nickname,” Marin replied. “I married him because I love him.”
Marin also revealed that his relationship with Clements couldn’t be physical because of age, but he explained that it wasn’t an issue. “It’s not a problem with him, if I want a physical relationship with someone I will just tell Philip beforehand.”
Clements said he is currently staying at a friend’s house in Kent, and he visits Florin whenever he can.
