Compassion is a trait that can be found in every living creature, regardless of species.
And when a person saves another being, even if that being is an animal, nothing can define the joy one feels when that happens.
Another trait that exists in all beings is gratitude. And when even wild animals recognize how their life has been saved and they show gratitude for it, it’s simply astounding.
Here are a few wonderful examples of when that happened:
1. The squirrel who visits the family that saved him.
Back in 2009, a squirrel that had been wounded by an owl and Brantley Harrison and her family stumbled upon the poor gal. They named the creature Bella and cared for her for 5 months.
Once she was well enough, they released Bella back into the wild but were astounded when Bella kept visiting them every day for the past 8 years. It’s obvious she didn’t forget their kindness!
2. The swan hugging its rescuer.
Swans are known for being hostile and aggressive. But when one got stuck in a fence, Richard Weeze didn’t think twice about helping it. The grateful swan hugged Richard and wrapped its neck around his in an action that clearly said, “Thank you.”
3. The grateful deer visiting its rescuer’s house each day.
A few years ago, one family saved a wild deer from hunters. Now, the deer makes daily trips to their house, even waiting patiently by the window for everyone to wake up. Because the animal really loves bread, local shop owners sometimes give free loaves to the deer.
4. Another deer who found shelter in a welcoming home.
Amscolie takes care of orphaned wild animals. Once while there was a storm, she found 3 baby deer who sneaked into her house through the back door after she forgot to lock it. Unable to send them outside, she let them stay until the weather improved and they rained kisses on her in thanks.
5. The kangaroo has never failed to hug its rescuers each day for the past 10 years.
When Abigail the kangaroo was only 5 months old, she was saved and brought to the Alice Springs Reserve. Even at that tender age, she remembered the people who saved her and makes sure to give them a hug each day.
6. Only a child could get to the heart of this dog.
Nora had faced abuse from her previous owners, to the point she became afraid of all people. But a one-year-old boy named Archie got her trust and the two are now inseparable.
7. The grateful jaguar
Brazilian army soldiers in the Amazon rainforest stumbled upon a small jaguar that was barely alive. They took him in and nursed him back to health. Because the jaguar was not accustomed to living in the wild anymore, the local government allowed the soldiers to keep the animal.
They named the jaguar Jiquitaia and it’s adorable how he shows his gratitude to the ones who rescued him.
8. The cat who pays it forward.
Rademenesa the cat was 2 months old when the cat was brought to the animal shelter with serious respiratory inflammation. Now recovered, the cat has been assisting the workers at the shelter trying to help other animals who are also sick.
9. The puppy was rescued from a fire and became a firefighter.
