An Amtrak train carrying over two hundred people derailed in Southern California on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place in Moorpark, just northwest of Los Angeles, where several cars carrying a total of 198 passengers and 13 crew members derailed when the train collided with a water truck.
According to the preliminary reports, at least 15 people were injured in the crash.

“On June 28, 2023, Amtrak train 14 was traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle at approx. 11:15 a.m. PT when it struck a water truck obstructing the tracks at Moorpark, California,” Amtrak confirmed in a statement.
“There were approximately 198 passengers and 13 crew onboard who were evacuated from the train, with no reports of serious injuries.
“The train derailed as a result of the impact but remained upright. Amtrak is working with customers to make alternate travel arrangements. Amtrak, in coordination with local authorities, is conducting a full investigation.”
Following the accident, all Amtrak services between Los Angeles and Ventura have been suspended pending further notice.
Amtrak’s statement comes shortly after Moorpark authorities swarmed the area near Montair Drive and West Los Angeles Avenue following reports of a derailed train.
“Please stay clear of the area if you are not there to reunite with a family member. Expect major traffic delays throughout the city,” the Sheriff’s Office warned not long after the incident.
Fortunately, the derailed cars remained upright and no casualties or major injuries were reported.
