A strict mother has sparked fury and calls for intervention after revealing her young daughter goes hungry when she forgets to prepare her own lunch.
Ruby Franke is a mother-of-six and a content creator who hit back at her 6-year-old daughter’s teachers who “from time to time” message her to let her know that her child is hungry because she didn’t bring any lunchbox with her to school.
In a viral video that resurfaced this week, the mother insisted that her daughter, who was 6 years old at the time of the clip, has to prepare her own lunchbox before heading off to school.
She also said that dropping off lunch for her daughter after the girl forgot to pack it on her own would teach the child nothing.
“Her teacher is uncomfortable with her being hungry and not having lunch and it would ease her discomfort if I was to come to school with a lunch,” Ruby says.
“The natural outcome is that she is just going to have to go hungry. My hope is she will be hungry and come home and be like ‘that was really painful being hungry all day I’ll make sure to always have a lunch with me.’”
After sharing her strict parenting method on the internet, the mother was slammed by parents who believed her daughter was too young to be left unaided when it comes to nutrition.
“If I were a mum I would be so uneasy knowing that my baby was going hungry,” one person wrote.
“Her kids are going to stop talking to her when they are older,” another said.
A third added: “Children cannot learn if they are hungry. Their focus then gets pulled to the fact they are hungry rather than the lesson being taught.”
Some angry viewers went on to accuse the mother of being lazy and neglecting her daughter by allowing her to stay hungry for hours at a time.
“I consider myself a strict parent but I would never let my child go hungry for the sake of teaching them a ‘lesson,’” one man insisted.
“There are surely better ways to prove your point? Children need food and it is parents’ responsibility to provide them with it,” another said.
