Britney Spears was slapped in the face by a security guard after attempting to take a photo of one of her favorite basketball players.
The 41-year-old singer was reportedly having a good time with her husband Sam Asghari at ARIA Hotel’s Catch restaurant in Las Vegas on Wednesday night when she took notice of NBA star Victor Wembanyama.
In an attempt to get a selfie with the Spurs star, Spears approached the athlete only to get struck in the face by his bodyguard, Damian Smith, who presumably thought his client might have been in danger.
Witnesses have since revealed that Britney was knocked to the floor during the alleged assault and that she began screaming “This is f***ing America” immediately after the slap.
Following the incident, Spears’ team filed a lawsuit against Smith, accusing the Spurs’ Director of Security of battery.
A source also claimed that Smith walked up to Spears’ table to apologize for the misunderstanding shortly after the altercation.
“You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans,” he allegedly said while implying he didn’t recognize Britney in time to react in a better way.
While the singer appeared to have accepted the apology and moved on, the matter escalated when her own security personnel talked to Smith and decided to file a police report.
According to the insiders from law enforcement, the report is not being treated as a criminal case due to self-defense allegedly playing a major role in the escalation.
