Tributes have begun pouring in for Scottish actor David McCallum after his sudden passing at the age of 90.
The legendary actor, who was best known for portraying eccentric medical examiner Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard in 456 episodes of NCIS from 2003 to 2023, died at New York Presbyterian Hospital while surrounded by his loved ones.
According to the reports, McCallum passed away from natural causes.
The saddening news caused an outpouring of tributes in which The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (1964-1968) star was remembered as a gracious gentleman and consummate professional.
Michael Weatherly, who played Senior Field Agent Anthony DiNozzo in NCIS, shared an old signed photo of the actor as he remembered his other roles including that in the 1963 hit movie The Great Escape.
“David McCallum made every moment count, in life and on set. Let’s raise a jug and celebrate a funny fantastic authentic man,” he wrote.
“I’ve only got 3 autographs. Connery, Tony Bennett and McCallum. I felt the same way as Steve McQueen in this picture from The Great Escape: Wow! It’s David McCallum! No one did it better. We were lucky to have him bring us Ducky. Let’s send all the love in the world to his beautiful family.”
Emily Wickersham, who portrayed Eleanor Bishop in NCIS, added: “Had the pleasure of working with David for many years and he was the utmost professional and a true legend. I will miss you David.”
That ’70s Show star Wilmer Valderama, who also played Special Agent Nicholas Torres in NCIS since the show’s 14th season, issued the following statement: “David, what an immense honor it was to share the screen with you.
Your professionalism and ability to effortlessly take every one of us on a journey through your art will be felt forever.
I will miss you my friend. ”Our thoughts remain with David’s loved ones during this challenging time.
