A 13-year-old boy who was told off at school for doodling too much has landed himself a deal of a lifetime.
Joe Whale’s drawings landed him a huge deal with Nike and his family couldn’t be prouder.
“This is one of my dreams. Nike is such a big thing and there’ll be loads of fun stuff coming up soon that I’m really excited for,” he said.
“I just keep telling myself, do what you love, do what you love, doodle,” Joe continued. “It feels very good. I’m really proud of myself. I have always drawn all my life since I was two or three.”
The teen said he started drawing when he was around six years old. When he was not feeling great, he would go to his room and start doodling.
“It makes me feel happy,” he said. “It is one of the most relaxing things I do.”
The teen also said that his “focus is on monsters and aliens” but he also has other characters in mind.
Joe’s parents sent him to an after-school art club after being told off for doodling too much.
His art teacher then shared photos of his drawings on Instagram where it attracted worldwide attention.
Joe’s proud dad, Gregory Whale, told CNN: “Joe is really excited to join the Nike Family, he absolutely loves the brand. It is a dream come true for him as he loves both sport and creativity and partnering with Nike will give him the opportunity to embrace both.”
The teen will be collaborating with Nike ‘on some special projects.’
In a statement to CNN, Joe’s agency, Loveblood Creative, said: “We are so excited to confirm that Joe is now part of the Nike family. It really is a unique relationship that puts Joe’s talent and love of sport together to inspire others to have fun and do what they love.”
