A Tom Cruise lookalike has spoken out and revealed that his Hollywood looks helped him pay off a massive debt.
Evan Ferrante is a Tom Cruise impersonator from Los Angeles who’s been making a living by impersonating the Hollywood A-lister for the last two decades.
According to the 44-year-old doppelganger, he first used his looks to flirt with women, but he quickly realized they could help him make a living after he was paid $40,000 for impersonating the actor for just a day.
Ferrante explained that the unusual request came shortly after he left university, whereas the hefty payment helped him pay off his massive credit card debt.
Since then, Ferrante has met Cruise in person and went on to launch a profitable venture through Tom Cruise-themed photoshoots and performances.
“I managed to pay off all of my debt in just one day. I was contacted by a company in Australia. They wanted me to film a couple of comedic sketches as Tom Cruise after discovering some of my work online,” the man recalled.
“In the green-lit sketches Tom buys a cappuccino; he purchases some salmon at a fish store; and the final sketch shows him walking the red carpet with then-wife Katie Holmes who towers over him.
“I wrote the scripts, hired the crew, locked down the locations and planned out my shot list.
After agonizing over the delay in receiving my first international wire transfer, I finally received approximately $40,000 on the first day of production.
I used this to clear all my debt in one fell swoop. It felt incredibly satisfying. ”Ferrante went on to say that this moment represents one of the integral parts of his career as an impersonator.
“I decided to start making a montage of Tom’s performances with a wig and glasses from my apartment in Astoria in Queens, New York. It caught people’s attention in Hollywood and I started doing a mix of comedy sketches and live corporate performances,” he added.
“I’ve now worked as an impersonator for over two decades, traveling around the world including the US, UK, and New Zealand.”
While Evan now isn’t short of fans, he admitted that his parents first thought his career as an impersonator was a joke and not a real job. His success, however, changed their minds for the better.
“They’re so different now they’ve seen my success and have embraced it and supported me so much,” he concluded.
“All my friends are just stunned at how I’ve managed to keep this up as a career for so long.”
