A missing nonverbal boy with autism was found dead just a day after he disappeared from his home.
3-year-old Jermaine Jones from Watertown Township, Michigan, went missing at around 2 pm on Monday after walking out of his home on S. Bauer Road while his babysitter was showering.
After the unfortunate incident, a massive search for the missing child was launched. The search came to a tragic day one the following day after the boy was found dead in the Looking Glass River which is located some five hours away from the boy’s home.
“This afternoon at just after 2 pm, Clinton County Central Dispatch received a call of a missing child on S. Bauer Rd just north of Clark Rd in Watertown Township,” Clinton County Sheriff’s Office revealed in a Monday statement.
“The 3 year old boy pictured walked away from his residence and has not been seen since. He is autistic and non-verbal.
“We are seeking assistance from the public in locating him. If you live in the area, please check your home, outbuildings, cameras, etc. We are continuing the search with specialized resources this evening with the hope of locating him. If we are unsuccessful this evening, we will bring in more volunteers in the morning.”
On the following day, at around 4 pm, the boy was found lifeless.
“It is with great sadness that we are reporting that the missing child was located deceased. There will be a press conference near the Clinton County Incident Command trailer on Bauer Rd just north of Clark Rd at 5:30pm,” the authorities added.
“At this time further details may be released. Please pray for the family during this tragic time.”
It was since the tragic discovery revealed that that boy’s parents were at work when the child went missing. It remains unclear if the babysitter, who was taking a shower when Jermaine left the home, will face any charges over his death.
