A bride was left in tears after her groom called her insecure over her reaction to her nephew’s outfit at her wedding.
The groom in question took to Reddit to recall his big day and reveal that the pair’s reception turned out to be a disaster even though the ceremony went as planned.
According to the 28-year-old man, his wife set a “very strict” no-white dress code for her wedding. Despite making the rules clear to everyone, one of her guests – the groom’s 6-year-old nephew – appeared in “white jeans and a white bow tie.”
As the man added, the situation spiraled out of control after his upset bride secretly confronted his sister and the boy and asked them both to leave the venue immediately.
“The reception was going well, until I noticed my wife walking over to the bathroom with her face held in her hands. Obviously I could tell my wife was upset as we’ve been together for three years now and I can tell when she’s upset,” the husband wrote.
“Once I got to the bathroom I knocked on the door and informed my wife that it was me at the door. After a few minutes I heard the door unlock and open. When I got in a saw my wife sitting on the floor with mascara running down her cheeks.”
He continued: “I told her she was overreacting but in a much nicer way and I said that she should go enjoy the reception and forget about the whole thing.
“She eventually texted her sister to come to the bathroom and fix her makeup so she could go back out and have a good night.”
Things took a turn for the worse, however, after the man found out his wife had already asked his sister to leave before even talking to him about the situation.
“My wife [felt] she was completely in the right for what she asked, and I told her that if she kicks my family out, then I will happily leave too,” he recalled.
Following the botched reception, the wife went to stay with her mom and hasn’t spoken to her husband since.
After asking Reddit for advice on how to handle the matter, the husband received plenty of support from viewers as shocked as he was.
“It’s a six-year-old in a bow tie. Did she think people would confuse him for the bride?” someone wrote.
“If the sister was the one wearing a white dress, or maybe a teenage niece, I might agree with you. But it’s a six-year-old boy in white jeans and bowtie. Seriously. If that ruins your night, then you have a lot more problems,” another added.
A third said: “It’s not just her day, it’s yours too. And there’s no reason she should try and kick out your six-year-old nephew because he had white jeans on.”
