A woman who can’t stand seeing her Christmas Tree up after December 25 has opened up about her “bizarre” habit that got her the nickname Grinch.
While most of us wait until the end of the first week of January to remove our Christmas décor and take down the tree, Georgia Schofield wraps up the festive season on Christmas Day.
Rather than waiting at least one more day for Christmas to be over, the mother takes her tree down at 5 pm on the same night to make room for her daughter’s birthday decorations.
“I take the tree and the other decorations down and replace them with Ava’s birthday stuff. Of course, I do it when the kids are in bed,” the mom explained.
“I’ve been doing this for the past four years, this year will be the fifth. It’s a lot easier for me if it’s kept simple so it’s easy to put away, as I’m a single parent so I do it all on my own.”
And while critics branded her as “cruel” and compared her to the Grinch, Georgia insists she was not being spiteful while claiming she does, in fact, enjoy Christmas.
“My family and friends understand why I do it but when I went viral online for it I did get mixed opinions, which is to be expected,” she added.
“I’ve been told I’m spiteful as it’s not fair on my youngest for taking the tree down.
But, like his big sister, he knows no different as it’s been done all his life.
I don’t really let negativity get me down. Don’t get me wrong when it gets personal it does get to me because I’m being judged by people who don’t know me or my life.”
Hitting back at the trolls after being accused of all kinds of things, the mother continued: “You can’t please everyone but the way I see it is it’s my life and I’ll do what I want to do whether people like it or not.”
The brave admission comes shortly after critics slammed the mother on the internet and questioned her decision to take the tree down so early.
