‘Mary Poppins’ legend Glynis Johns has passed away at the age of 100, her manager, Mitch Clem, confirmed.
Best known for her role as Mrs. Banks in the Disney film, the beloved star passed away on January 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Clem also said that Johns died of natural causes at an assisted living facility.
Johns had a remarkable career that spans more than 80 years. She appeared in over 30 plays and 60 movies.
The star made her stage debut at only a few weeks old when her grandmother, a popular virtuoso violinist, introduced her in the West End.
Johns’ mother was also a musician but it was her father, Mervys Johns, who introduced her to the world of cinema.
The legendary actress made her screen debut in 1938 and she gained popularity in the 1940s for her role as Anna in the 1941 drama film Parallel, for which she received the National Board of Review Award for Best Acting.
In 1948, she played the title role in Miranda. She was then featured in the joint British-American production, No Highway in the Sky, and made waves in Hollywood cinema.
Johns is best known for playing Winifred Banks in Disney’s Mary Poppins in 1964. The musical motion picture was a huge hit and she received a Laurel Award for Best Female Supporting Performance.
Last year, Johns made headlines when she turned 100. In an interview with ABC 7, she said: “It doesn’t make any difference to me. Well, I looked very good for every age.”
She also said that she was happy that her work continues to entertain people and for more decades to come.
“That’s what I hoped,” she expressed.
