An elderly woman who was left so disappointed by her children for ‘never visiting’ when she was sick and old has decided to leave her entire fortune to her cats and dogs.
The woman from Shanghai reportedly cut her children out of her will because of their behavior, leaving her $2.8 million fortune (20 million yuan) to her pets as they were her only companions.
Years earlier, she made a will in which she left her children property and money but she changed it after none of the three bothered to care for her or visit her.
According to The South China Morning Post, her new will states that all of her money must be used to care for her dogs and cats.
The news outlet revealed that she appointed a local veterinary clinic as the administrator of her inheritance to take care of her dogs and cats and any of their offspring.
“However, there are alternatives to solve this issue. Liu’s current will is one way and we would have advised her to appoint a person she trusts to supervise the vet clinic to ensure the pets are properly cared for,” Chen Kai said to the outlet.
Another official had warned the elderly woman about the risks of leaving her entire fortune to the clinic.
“We told Auntie Liu that if her children change their attitude towards her, she could always alter her will again,” the official said.
It seems like her children may still have a chance to receive the money but only if they take really good care of their mother or visit her more often.
The elderly woman’s decision to leave her entire fortune to her pets is not the first time someone has left their dog or cat a millionaire.
In 2020, a businessman from Tennessee also left his 8-year-old dog a $5 million upon his death.
