Jay-Z unleashed a furious rant about his wife’s lack of Best Album wins in his acceptance speech at the 2024 Grammys.
On Sunday night, the musician condemned the academy while being presented with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award for his contributions to the world of music.
Rather than thanking the academy for this honor, however, the rapper and record producer slammed the prestigious awards over his wife Beyoncé’s lack of Best Album Awards.
While Beyoncé won 32 awards in other categories, she never won the Best Album Grammy despite being nominated for the honor on four occasions.
“We want y’all to get it right.
At least getting close to right.
And obviously it’s subjective. Y’all don’t gotta clap at everything. Obviously it’s subjective because, you know, it’s music and it’s opinion-based,” Jay-Z said as he delivered his acceptance speech while accompanied by his 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.“But, you know, some things — I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn’t work.”
Not backing down while his wife looked rather anxious and apprehensive in the audience, Jay-Z continued: “You know, some of you gonna go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in a category. No, when I get nervous I tell the truth.”
Though he was previously branded as bitter and disrespectful, the musician’s comments appear to echo those he made at last year’s Grammy Awards.
“The truth is, we grew up wanting to be on the Grammys, and it was our goal. We just want them to get it right. That’s what we want,” he said last time after Beyoncé lost the Best Album Grammy to Styles.
