Terrifying reports arriving at this hour have confirmed the complete collapse of the key Baltimore Bridge into the River Patapsco.
The incident arose after a large container ship struck the bridge, resulting in a mass casualty event.
Up to 20 people and several vehicles have fallen directly into the river as explained by the Baltimore City Fire Department which declared the incident as a massive causality.
The Fire Department went on to explain how the giant vessel hit a massive column that was located across the Francis Scott Key Bridge at about 1:30 ET and 5:30 GMT. Moreover, shocking videos were launched across social media that portray the bridge descending as a whole into the water.
Sources have now confirmed how several casualties were reported and at the moment, a massive rescue operation featuring multiple agencies as well as a recovery operation is currently underway.
The bridge is said to span a whopping 3 kilometers and is 1.6 miles long. It’s a part of a giant 695 highway orbital that encircles the entire city of Baltimore. For now, the Baltimore Port which is closest to where the bridge is located is said to be the biggest in America and designated for specialized cargo only.
