What better affordable way to cool yourself down during hot summer nights than by turning the fan on max? While most of us are no strangers to this habit, experts warn that sleeping with a fan on during humid nights can be bad for your health.

While fans are excellent at providing instant chill and helping us cool down, Sleep Advisor warns that there are several issues related to their use.
For one, fans move a lot of air around your room, causing waves of pollen, dust, and dirt to end up right in your sinuses. For those prone to hay fever, allergies, and asthma, that could pose a serious issue.

Additionally, a never-ending blast of cold air might cause your skin to dry faster. If you are already experiencing dry skin, make sure to avoid fans or apply sufficient amounts of moisturizer before hitting the bed with a fan on.
Another factor worth consideration are the eyes. Many people sleep with their eyes partly open, and if the airstream is directed that way, it may cause eye irritation and redness.

On top of that, some people also don’t feel shy sleeping with their mouths wide open. In that case, the airflow has an easy job of drying the throat.
The continuous breeze of the fan might also cause the muscles to stiffen, resulting in mornings when you’d rather stay in bed all day than having to stand up.

If you enjoy using a fan at night, make sure to minimize the risks associated with its use. Instead of pointing it right towards you, make sure to rotate it so that the breeze won’t hit you directly. Additionally, make sure that the airflow is directed away from your face.
