A golden retriever and therapy dog, who participated as a cheerleader during last year’s Boston Marathon, was cheering the runners again during this year’s Boston Marathon.
Spencer became an Internet sensation when he came to motivate the runners wearing a raincoat and carrying a banner in his mouth during last year’s Boston Marathon.
This year, Spencer cheered the runners wearing a shiny yellow raincoat with his owner, Rich Powers.
He was holding a banner in his mouth that read, “We Are Boston Strong.”
His owner wrote online: “Turned out to be a great day for a marathon. Congrats to the runners and see you in 2020!”
The owner shared the video of Spencer cheering the runners on Facebook with the caption: ‘Another year motivating some awesome athletes and it looks like we can lose the raincoat soon!’
One commented on the video: ‘How precious. Had to share, hope you don’t mind Rich Powers and Spencer Powers. Golden Hugs’
Another wrote: ‘Way to go, Spencer! Love you’ while the third one added: ‘Famous again! LOVE the yellow raincoat…cheerier than the blue!’
A few days before the marathon, his owner shared a series of pictures of Spencer and his sister, Penny, preparing for the big marathon.
He wrote with the pictures: “Preparing to cheer on the runners on Monday”
“If the weather is what they are predicting Penny will sit it out again this year. Only have 1 raincoat and Spencer gets it.”
