It’s such a heartwarming sight to see the fifth graders learn sign language for their deaf classmate.
Students at a Peoria, Illinois school skip their recess every Wednesday to learn sign language for their deaf classmate, Rhemy Elsey so that they can communicate in a better way with him.
They also have an American Sign Language club where they practice the skills with Rhemy and an instructor.
Rhemy who has difficulty in hearing has cochlear implants and relies on sign language to communicate with others. He is delighted to see the efforts that his classmates are putting for him so that they can communicate with him.
Rhemy happily told the WMBD News that seeing them makes me feel like they want to be like me.
Kids show unusual gestures just by their actions, and it speaks highly about the characters of all these kids who are happily there for their classmate. It is inspiring to see that Rhemy is comfortable around these kids in his school.
The kids always skip their playtime to give that time towards learning the sign language for their friend and help him have a better environment while he is at his school.
