There is only a one in a million child who is born with the legs that are bent, and it is the story of a girl who got through the miracle surgery because of the financial support from a stranger.
Victoria Komada who is a three-year-old girl was born with the bilateral tibial hemimelia which is a result where the legs are in backward form and have missing bones.
The doctors first told the family that the only solution for Victoria to have proper legs again is double amputation, but then the parents successfully found out about a surgeon in Florida who can reconstruct her legs.
The cost of the surgery was high as it was around $235,000 and thankfully thousands of family raised funds so that the family could travel to America and get the surgery done.
The family traveled to Paley Institue in West Palm Beach, Florida where the surgeon told them that they could reconstruct the left leg and right leg could be fitted with a prosthetic.
The 3-year-old had her first surgery in July which was 9 hours long, and then after few months of therapy and surgery, Victoria underwent a second operation in November so that the bones in the left leg could be fused again.
Just after two days of the surgery, Victoria was able to walk for the first time.
Victoria is back to her home Norwich, Norfolk with her parents after nine months and two operations. Luckily, the girl can now walk, run and play sports easily like others.
Marzena, Victoria’s mom, said that she was terrified about what may happen, but then every week she kept getting better, and now everything is normal.
The parents are super happy to see their baby girl being able to walk successfully. Dr. Paley said that we are delighted to achieve whatever we thought for her and her reconstructed leg is functional now as she can play and run around.
