Giving birth is not only messy, exhausting and painful, but it can also be glamorous.
Pregnant women around the world are combining contractions and contouring with the new trend of applying makeup to prepare for childbirth.
This is not about some light powder or eyeliner and a touch of mascara. These moms are going full blasts to be ready for Instagram!
It may sound crazy to some to get ready for the photoshoot during labor but according to a study from Cosmetify, 64 percent of women aged 18 to 31 get beauty treatments such as pedicure, manicure, hair removable and hairstyling before going into labor.
Photos of childbirth have been stigmatized for centuries. Many women felt the need to hide the reality and social media just added to the pressure.
In the same study, participants were asked why they were concerned about their looks after childbirth. Among the top reasons were looking fab in photos (31 percent), to avoid looking tired (22 percent), and to look presentable for visitors (26 percent.)
In another study, it was revealed that the average woman applies makeup within 2 hours of giving birth.
Alexis Jayda, a beauty blogger from California, recorded a makeup tutorial while waiting to give birth to her baby.
Another beauty influencer Dana Chavez made sure her eyebrows shaped up and her contouring was fleek for her childbirth.
Lee Ann Jarrell also made sure she appeared glamorous that she refused to give birth until her makeup was finished.
Reactions of people were mixed. One Facebook user said: “Good for them! Make up was not crossing my mind in that moment and I don’t look horrible on those pictures but I don’t care… it was one of the happiest and beautiful moments in my life.”
Another wrote: “I’m one of those moms. Although I was prepared w/ my make up items in my hospital bag I forgot all during labor. My bestie took day off to visit me, stayed with me for over ten hours, had her husband take care of their daughter and applied make up on me during my active labor and I loved the pictures when baby came out.”
A third said: “I don’t think it’s for social media. I think they just want pictures they can look back on to share.”
