A daughter whose dad has spent more than twenty years in prison for nonviolent drug offenses will finally be able to see him outside the facility, thanks to Kim Kardashian!
Speaking to NBC News, Jacaria Stringer said: “I never even thought I’d get to see him out of prison, so it feels good.”
A judge ruled that Jeffrey Stringer, now 47, should be released from jail. He was arrested and charged with producing and intent to trade cocaine in West Palm Beach in the late 1990s.
Jeffrey was sentenced to life in prison due to his two prior convictions.
His case gained national attention as it served as an example of a nonviolent drug offender who faced an unjust sentence based on rigid federal guidelines.
Many other prisoners are now getting relief under new guidelines signed into law by President Trump. The First Step Act lets nonviolent offenders earn credits for good conduct which results in early release.
A passionate advocate for criminal justice reform, Kim Kardashian helped fund the father’s case so he could be with his family.
She wrote on Twitter: “We did it again! Had the best call with this lovely family and my attorney @msbkb, who just won the release for their loved one Jeffrey in Miami.
“He served 22 years of life sentence for low level drug case. He served too much time but it gives me so much joy to fund this life saving work.”
Barnett shared Kim’s tweet, calling it “such an amazing day.”
She added: “Jeffrey should never have been sentenced to life in this case. Period. America’s addiction to incarceration devastates entire families. So happy Jeffrey will be reunited with his family after 22 years! His life was saved today!”
