5-year-old Kemiyah Edwards finally walked out of a hospital on her own after she was shot in the head by a stray bullet that suddenly came through their family home’s window in Virginia.
After the incident last month, sources said to CBS affiliate WTVR that the girl’s grandmother carried her “into a car and stopped for help at the Oak Hill Shopping Plaza a few blocks away.”
According to People, the Henrico Police Department confirmed that they responded to the shooting and the case is being investigated.
WTVR’s TV report shows the girl walking out of the hospital after staying for more than a month in the intensive care unit.
A Facebook page ‘5-year-old Princess’ was created for Kemiyah and says the funds will go to her health care.
Reckalynn Harris wrote: “We are so thankful for all the donations, gifts cards and support that she already has received. Please continue to pray for her.”
The FB page also says that even though Kemiyah managed to go back home, “she has a very hard long road ahead.”
Harris gives updates to Kemiyah’s supporters and shared an uplifting video of the little girl dancing. “She had a long day yesterday seeing family and friends and it wore her out,” Harris said.
“She still has another surgery that she has to have but is doing so well the family appreciates everyone. This has been a journey for all of us and will continue to be. Please still continue to pray for her.”
On April 21, Harris wrote that Kemiyah is “doing much better as she is moving all her limbs and showing more of her personality.”
Get well soon, Kemiyah!
