A military veteran, who spent 22 years in the Army, was doused in milkshake while campaigning for the Brexit Party outside a polling station in Aldershot.
Don McNaughton who served in the Parachute Regiment for 22 years was covered in a milkshake in Aldershot, Hampshire while campaigning for the Brexit Party.
A crowdfunding page was set up to buy a new suit for Mr. McNaughton. The page with the target of raising £100 had already raised £14,000 in five hours.
According to DailyMail, Mr. McNaughton said: “Some yob, mid-20s, he came across from (a) street, walked over to me, gave me the finger, went up to the Co-Op, got a milkshake, came down here and threw it on me. Politics today.”
“Some of the people who have seen me like this are almost in tears. The girls, I try to cheer them up but they look on it as something very horrendous – and it is quite horrendous – but to me, it was horrendously funny.”
“I don’t remember politics being like this in the past, I look on this as a modern occurrence. It’s terribly, terribly un-British as far as I’m concerned. We’re the product of the modern Parliament, of what’s happened.”
Mr. McNaughton had been sitting outside the polling station and recording the number of people who have voted when the incident happened.
He said: “It was just hilarious, absolutely hilarious. He came across the pavement, had a look at me and then he had a sour look on his face.”
“Then he gave me the finger.
He went up to the road and he was shouting obscenities at me over his shoulder but I couldn’t hear him clearly because I was too busy laughing.
It’s so imbecilic, so juvenile. I couldn’t take it seriously. ”He said that It was an assault and he would like to see the thrower’s picture in the Press.
“He’d have to live the rest of his life knowing he’d done this”, he said.
