A couple proved that they were meant to be together for life.
82-year-old Delma and 84-year-old Tom tied the knot when they were in their 20s. They met through mutual friends and immediately realized they fell in love with each other.
During their first date, Tom drove with Delma but didn’t know exactly where he was going.
Speaking about her parents’ first date, their daughter Donetta Nicolas said: “They drove around two, three different blocks or whatever and they came back and they parked. He said he reached over and he grabbed her hand and he said, ‘I don’t know what made me do it.’ He said, ‘I just reached over and gave her a kiss on the cheek.’”
Three weeks after their first date, they decided to tie the knot. They loved each other for 62 years and left the world holding each other’s hands.
Tom and Delma lived a happy and adventurous life. Like most couples out there, they also had a lot of struggles in life but deciding to stay in each other’s arms no matter what happens is the key to a long, lasting relationship.
The couple had two wonderful daughters, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
In 2017, they were admitted to a nursing home at around the same time. Delma was first admitted and Tom followed a few days later.
They breathed their last breaths hand in hand on April 21, 2017. Tom died first and Delma passed away 90 minutes later, according to The Epoch Times.
“It was exactly how they wanted to go. It couldn’t have been any better,” Nicholas said.
A touching picture of Tom and Delma holding hands before they passed away was shared by her loved ones. It was a bittersweet moment that will always be remembered.
