6 million companion animals brought to a shelter each year, a dog that goes by the name of “June Cash” was abandoned, alone and scared. Seeing dogs like this is something that Tammy Graves, the founder of pet rescue organization The Haley Graves Foundation knows all too well.
When her eyes fell upon June Cash, then thought to be “Johnny,” the poor pup was cowering, facing a corner in her cell clearly suffering and paralyzed in fear.
Angry and frustrated, Tammy Graves snapped a photo and posted on Facebook showing the reality of what happens when dogs are left by their owners at shelters.
Tammy wrote, “This guy yesterday morning woke up happy on a couch or in a warm bed, waiting to be fed, hopped in the car thinking he was going to the park… Instead he went to a place where there are 275 dogs barking to be freed… it smells like death, and doors are banging shut all the time.
Animals walk by and never return.
And he has no idea his fate. All he knows is he didn’t ask to be here. He didn’t even ask to be born to irresponsible owners. But today he lays frozen in fear, in a puddle of his own urine. ”
Graves knew she needed to lend her love and knowledge to this poor animal and immediately adopted her and brought her to the vet. It was only the beginning of the harrowing battle of June Cash.
The vet found she was living with a severe heartworm infection, and sadly showed signs of past abuse. Once nursed back to health, June Cash was placed in a foster home to work on her recovery process.
June Cash has healed by leaps and bounds, but still has a ways to go. She has just recently begun to come to her male foster when called.
Since Tammy Graves’ post has gone viral, The Haley Graves Foundation has been flooded with hopeful applications to give June the loving home she deserves.
They’ve also added a tab on their website JUST to update the world on the pup that stole the internet’s heart! “She loves her new bed, her toys and treats! We are moving slow with her, June Cash has as we can tell never been to a Veterinarian so each procedure is new to her,” the latest update reads.“Everything is a new introduction.
So far she has had a procedure a day rather it be vaccines or Heartworm injection. Today is spa day!”June “Cash” update! One of our Board Members went to love and snuggle with Miss June Cash this morning at the Vet. As…
