Maia Falwasser married the love of her life one day before he died at the age of 22.
Guests performed an emotional haka as Maia and Naval Herbert tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Australia’s Gold Coast.
Sadly, Nava passed away the next day after a long battle against brain cancer. He was diagnosed with the tumor months ago and his health quickly worsened.
Maia, who has a baby boy with Navar, has shared the video of their big day on a GoFundMe page she created to raise money to fly her husband’s body back to his hometown in New Zealand.
“Today my heart is heavy and sad, I lost my best friend, husband and the father to our son,” she wrote on the page.
“I feel absolutely showered in LOVE by friends and family, this is a hard time, however I do find my strength and refuge in everybody’s support.”
Groomsmen helped Navar get dressed for the special day before wheeling him to the backyard t wait for his bride to walk down the aisle.
As beautiful Maia appeared next to him, they held hands and he told her how much he loved her.
After the ceremony, friends and family performed a haka, a traditional war cry and dance, for the newlywed couple.
The Nerang Bulls, Navar’s rugby club, also organized a celebration of his life. “The effect will be across the whole club. My understanding is there has probably been between 20 and 30 of the players there at any given time over the last couple of days,” said a club spokesperson.
