An outraged mother has spoken out and claimed her son got sent home from school unsupervised because the teacher told him he wasn’t wearing enough pink on the anti-bullying awareness day.
As Claire Lealiifano from New Zealand revealed, her son’s primary school had organized an anti-bullying event during which all students were asked to wear pink.
Despite wearing a black shirt with pink spots all over, however, the Helensville Primary School teacher deemed Claire’s son not pink enough to participate in the event and decided to send him home unsupervised.
Following the incident, the upset mother shared a picture of her son’s shirt on Facebook where she wrote:
“When you send your son to school in pink for anti-bullying. Apparently what he was wearing wasn’t good enough. So the head of year sent him home to get changed WITHOUT CHECKING I WAS HOME….. WTF?”
According to Claire, she later received an email from the head teacher who sent the young boy home alone.
“I then received an email from this so-called teacher saying if he didn’t return to school she would contact the truancy officers,” the mother added.
“My kid was pretty upset that he had been picked on for not wearing enough pink. But yet there were kids at school wearing different colored tops that weren’t pink. So my question is why pick on my son?”
As the furious mum explained, she and the student’s father met with the principal of the primary school who confirmed that their son’s choice of clothes was appropriate and said that the teacher shouldn’t have sent the boy home.
According to the school district, the authorities are investigating the matter seriously.
