Wanting to get elected to the highest office in the land requires a lot of money and support. It’s not enough to just become known to one’s constituents but also to other people across the nation. And one of the best ways to do that is to team up with a well-known celebrity.
This is not to say that political gain is the only reason why politicians and celebrities team-up. Celebrities who truly believe in a particular politician’s platform will give their wholehearted support. Besides which, they could simply gel together as friends.
However, tacking one’s political coin onto a celebrity does come with certain risks especially if there’s a scandal or one happens to be caught between one celebrity’s feud with another. And that appears to have happened for presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
It happened when Harris attended a fundraising event that music manager Scooter Braun hosted at his home in Los Angeles. Aside from Harris, other big names that were on the guest list included Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, and Demi Lovato.
One name who wasn’t there though was Taylor Swift’s. In June, Swift called Scooter “incessant, manipulative” and even a “bully” in public. Unfortunately for Harris, Swift’s feud with Braun has spilled over to her somewhat when Swift’s fans became upset at the presidential candidate for attending the fundraiser of Swift’s adversary. This is even if Swift is already a known supporter of Harris.
Millie James tweeted, “If @KamalaHarris thinks this will get her votes she is delusional and @scooterbraun is a thief who uses these women to advance his bank account just like Kamala used a man to advance her career.”
Another fan fumed: “I was so excited for you as a democratic candidate, but if you so choose to go to an event held by @scooterbraun, a man whose arrogance mirrors our president’s, I can no longer hold onto my excitement and faith for you as a presidential candidate, @KamalaHarris #disappointed.”
Swift’s fans came to her defense following Braun’s purchase of Big Machine Records which carries all of Swift’s catalog.
At the time, Swift wrote on Tumblr, “I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.”
That being said, Swift’s absence didn’t make much of a dent in the event called a “Fireside Chat with Kamala.” The Daily Mail even reported that about 100 people showed up, including big names such as Eva Longoria and Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks co-founder.
