Amy and Craig Sargeant have known each other since they were 14 and 15-year olds and always wanted to have children.
The problem, however, was that Amy had cystic fibrosis – a life-threatening condition in which the lungs become choked with mucus.
However, when she turned 16, the couple went for genetic testing and were reassured that Craig did not suffer from the disease.
Craig proposed Amy in 2011 during Christmas and after their engagement, the couple wanted to have children after taking consent from Amy’s consultant.
But even after getting married in 2013 at Carmarthen, south-west Wales, the couple were childless due to Amy’s condition.
There were unsuccessful attempts at first – In 2015, the couple went for their first round of IVF but that didn’t yield result. After the second cycle, Amy got pregnant but suffered a miscarriage after five weeks.
After consoling each other for a few years, they decided to try intrauterine insemination (IUI) in which sperm is directly inserted into the womb.
The process was cheaper than IVF at 800 Pounds for a time. In July 2017, she again conceived successfully through the technique and after the six-week scan, the arrival of the triplets was confirmed!
They finally arrived – On January 27, 2018, Amy gave birth to the triplets at the Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales. The first was a boy, Ronnie at 3b 10 oz, the second was a girl, Lottie at 3lb 13oz, and the third was again a boy, Tommy, at 3lb 1oz.
Although the babies were premature at birth, after being tube-fed for some time, they became normal.
They are 18-months old now and perfectly healthy while Mrs. Sargeant, at 28 years, became the first lady in the UK with cystic fibrosis to give birth to triplets. At present, Amy’s lung is functioning at 63 percent of its capacity.
Craig is always there by Amy and the triplets so that the Sargeant’s are having a good time at the moment although the condition of Amy is not very good.
She is also not very sure about her health. But one thing is certain that the couple has got what they always wanted and that bit if happiness can always stay with them.
