A pair of twins with Down’s syndrome is one in a million as they are identical twins who were born with Down’s syndrome.
Five-year-old identical twins Abigail and Isobel live with their parents Jodi and Matt Parry in Chorley, Lancashire.
The parents said that they were devastated after finding out their twins had Down’s syndrome.
But now, they are so proud of their daughters and say that there’s nothing negative about them.
Jodi said: “When they were first born we grieved when we found out they both had Down’s syndrome, but now we wouldn’t change it for the world. There’s nothing in the world that could convince me to change them.”
“I wouldn’t say I have made any sacrifices because of the girls being born. It sounds sort of sugar coated but the only things that they have brought into our life are positive. There’s nothing negative.”
Matt added: “I don’t care how many chromosomes they’ve got. I don’t care about the biology and the science behind the Down’s syndrome. It doesn’t matter.”
“I have learnt there is no difference between them and [their brother] Finn other than the speed with which they are developing”.
Their brother Finn says that his life wouldn’t be the same without his sisters.
The couple created a charity called Twincess to share the positivity their daughters brought in their lives.
The parents say that the twins are thriving as they go to a mainstream school. The girls communicate by the sign.
They love going to school and learning new things every day. Their mother says: “I’m not going to say we’ve got great expectations, that we think they will be the first person with Down’s syndrome to be a chartered accountant or anything like that.”
“But as long as they are given a chance that’s all I could wish for.”
