A brave pit bull has gone viral after risking its life to clash with the shark that attacked his owner while the two were out fishing.
James White and Darby the pit bull were enjoying the sunny weather while fishing in Bodega Bay, Sonoma County, California, when something big got caught on the hook.
After spending over ten minutes to reel in the catch, James was shocked to see that an almost 2-meter-long shark was at the end of the line.
Impressed by the catch, the fisherman raised the shark in an attempt to unhook it but the sea beast fell onto the ground and bit him in the leg.
“Immediately there was blood everywhere, the first bite punctured an artery. The pressure was intense,” James recalled in an interview with NBC.
Despite his calls for help, no one was close enough to hear James pleading for help – except for his dog Darby.
The 100-pound pit bull immediately jumped out of the car where it was resting and sunk its teeth into the shark’s gills.
“And I told him, ‘No back off’ and then he repositioned and grabbed it by the tail. He literally ran up the hill with it and pulled it off my leg,” James added.
After James was freed from the jaws of the shark, he flicked it back into the sea and the beast went on its own way.
“If it wasn’t for him I would have been a lot worse…He’s been a part of the family from day one. Just now a little more,” the proud dog owner said.
We are positive that Darby is in for a whole lot of treats following his rescue mission!
