A paralyzed squirrel who had almost no chances of survival has been brought back to life, thanks to the 24-hour care a kind woman provided to it.
Lisa Deitchler heard about the sick animal after a dog belonging to one of her friends caught it from somewhere in Prineville, Oregon.
The squirrel had its legs and tail paralyzed due to a hole in one of its legs. Overwhelmed with feelings of compassion, Lisa decided to help the innocent creature, which she named Judy.
“I got Judy from a friend on Facebook that had said her dog found a squirrel, we knew right away that we wanted to help her,” Lisa told Story Trender.
Lisa was told by a vet that Judy had just five per cent chance of survival but she was determined to give the little animal one more go at life.
The kind woman exerted all her efforts to make sure she was providing the adorable creature the care and treatment it needed.
Thanks to Lisa’s 24/7 care, Judy started gaining health. Fast forward a few months, the squirrel is living a happy life with its caring family, despite its disabled legs.
“A few months down the road she became very sick, we rushed her to the vet and got her medicine and she had an allergic reaction to one of the medicines, in put a big hole in her leg which healed up nice,” Lisa said.
“The vet said she had a 5% chance of surviving; I wasn’t letting her die!
“We helped her get stronger and stronger but she hasn’t gained full movement in her back legs or tail yet.”
Lisa still tries to stimulate Judy’s frozen legs by playing and exercising with her. The little creature is becoming active day by day, and it also tries to move as much as it can.
Besides playing with Judy to activate its muscles and improve its lifestyle, Lisa also takes care of its diet.
She and her boyfriend feed Judy with nuts and nutritious items, providing the tiny creature with all the energy she needs.
Lisa said: “Nothing stops her from being a silly squirrel, she hops around and stashes nuts just like any other squirrel, she barks she purrs she pretends to give me kisses when I hold her up close to me, I love her!”
